City receives Recreational Trails Program grant

January 23, 2024

The City of Hickman was among recipients of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s grants to provide funding for the FY 2024 Recreational Trails Program.

Hickman will receive $130,216.80 to build Scott’s Creek Trail which is a 1,250 foot long, 10 feet wide concrete pedestrian trail that will connect to the City’s new Pedestrian Underpass under 68th Street.

The Recreational Trails Program provides funds to the states to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail related activities for both non-motorized and motorized recreational trail uses. Funding for the Recreational Trails Program is from the Federal Highway Administration and is made possible by a portion of the federal motor fuel excise tax paid by users of off-road recreational vehicles.

“We are thankful that Scotts Creek Trail, a connector trail in Hickman, was among the projects selected to receive Recreational Trails Program funding from the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission.  Scott's Creek Trail will provide connection from the City’s new pedestrian underpass on 68th Street (recently completed in 2023) to Hickman Road Trail.”

Kelly Oelke, City Administrator
City of Hickman, Ne
